Pyramides de la Raspille

Spectacular geological formations rise above the torrent that marks the language border between the French-speaking Valais and the German-speaking Upper Valais.

The Lämmerengletscher in the Bernese Alps gives its source to the Raspille, a torrent joined a few kilometres further down by the Tièche, which comes from the Plaine Morte glacier.

Before flowing into the Rhône, the Raspille flows through a pretty valley lined with vines, marking the linguistic boundary between the French-speaking Valais and the German-speaking Upper Valais.

This is where the rugged geological formations form pyramids that are both highly picturesque and slightly threatening.

You can admire them from the vineyards to the west of Salgesch, but for truly spectacular views you need to descend into the valley and follow the torrent.
