One of these days, when the A9 motorway will finally be completed, you won't even notice the village as you drive past, because the motorway will pass Turtmann under a covered trench.
For the moment, the only thing that catches your eye as you drive along the main road is the long runway of the former military airfield on the north side. But the village is on the other side!
Take a stroll through the streets of this farming village and you'll be in for a few surprises. Old 17th-century buildings, a tiny cable car, two contemplative elephants...
Further towards the mountain, you'll pass through the forest alongside the Turtmänna, the torrent that flows down the Turtmanntal and into the plain, forming a 42m-high waterfall. A very easy walk that will no doubt leave you wanting to see more...
From Turtmann, you can take the regional bus line 483 to Ergisch or the cable car up to Unterems and Oberems. From these three mountain villages, there are many opportunities for beautiful hikes.
You can also take the small road that climbs very high into the Turtmanntal, a valley that we have not yet explored. For the time being, our 360° guide only offers you a lovely walk to the waterfall and through the village of Turtmann.
