Situated just a few kilometres from Colmar, the small medieval winegrowing town of Eguisheim is rightly considered one of the most beautiful towns in Alsace. Overrun with tourists, it is nevertheless a truly unmissable destination.

Built around its castle as early as 720 AD, this colourful, flower-filled medieval town spreads out in concentric circles and its architectural ensemble has been preserved from the ravages of history and intelligently preserved.

Wandering through its narrow streets admiring the colourful palette of houses and deciphering the dates and ancient inscriptions on door lintels is a unique and unforgettable experience.

As the village is extremely touristy, you would almost have to visit it at daybreak or very late at night to have a chance to escape the crowds.

But as it is a wine village, you will find countless cellars where you can taste great Alsatian wines and, after a few drinks, you will probably be able to cope with the crowd...

Take also time to linger and dine in one of its many restaurants, which do tasty justice to Alsatian gastronomy.
