Once a municipality in its own right, Montana played a major role in the development of the tourist destination known worldwide as Montana-Crans. Nowadays, it's a quiet little hamlet with charming village houses that bear witness to a past of farming and transhumance.

While its neighbour Crans-sur-Sierre has become extremely urbanised, Montana has remained away from all the hustle and bustle of Montana-Crans, to the extent that there is nothing here to remind you that this hamlet is part of a major tourist resort.

In fact, all the hotel and sports facilities are located higher up, around Crans. Actually, the former municipality of Montana once stretched down towards the Rhône plain as far as Corin, on the wine-growing slopes overlooking Sierre.

To visit this tiny village still unspoilt by mass tourism, follow the road up to Crans-Montana but, shortly after passing through Chermignon d'En-Haut, take the small road on the right signposted "Montana-Village".
