Aghios IoannisThe Cave of St. John, west of Iraklia, is the largest of the Cyclades and one of the most beautiful in Greece. Access is free, but it's not equipped and visitors must bring torches. The decapitation of John the Baptist is celebrated every year on August 28th. On this occasion, the largest room is illuminated with hundreds of candles.From the hamlet of Pano Horio (or Panaghia), located in the center of the island and accessible by road, a marked trail leads to the cave, about an hour's walk away.
