Beautiful winter sports and summer hikes destination.A typical Valais village built on a plateau overlooking the Rhône Valley at 1320 m altitude, above Sierre. Winter sports and summer hiking in sumptuous scenery.
Vercorin was once a mountain village perched high above the Val d'Anniviers, whose inhabitants grew vines on the plain. They have always been linked to the village of Chalais, at the foot of the mountain, from where a small cable car has been running since 1951, linking the two villages every quarter of an hour throughout the year.
Like many mountain villages, Vercorin has been neglected over the centuries in favour of the plains. It was the advent of tourism in the 20th century that encouraged new families to settle here and the development of local crafts and shops. This tourism phenomenon has not destroyed Vercorin's identity but, on the contrary, has revitalised it.
Today, the village has much to offer its many visitors, summer and winter alike.
In winter, Vercorin offers 35km of downhill ski runs, 30km of cross-country ski runs, a 4.5km toboggan run, a natural ice rink, curling rinks, 16km of winter walking trails and much more.
In summer, a network of 300km of footpaths, 170km of mountain bike routes and a host of other sports keep visitors entertained, as do a host of friendly events and festivals.
With so much on offer in such spectacular scenery, it's hardly surprising that Vercorin has become a renowned tourist destination!
